An employee's level of motivation can be measured by how driven and content they are in their role. It is much more likely that an employee will do a great job and work hard if they are motivated to do so. The ability to motivate workers is critical to a company's ability to retain talent, compete for top talent, and achieve high levels of overall productivity.

Self-Determination Theory

When applied to the field of education, self-determination theory is primarily concerned with fostering in students an interest in learning, a value for education, and a confidence in their own capabilities and characteristics. This is because self-determination theory was developed to address these issues. These outcomes are signs of being intrinsically driven, as well as internalizing value systems and regulatory procedures. According to the findings of several studies, the end result of these processes is improved personal growth and adjustment, in addition to better learning and comprehension of abstract concepts. In this article, we also outline social-contextual elements that nurture intrinsic motivation and promote internalization, both of which lead to the desired educational outcomes.

What do the experts found?

In their research, Min An and Xiaofei Yu stated  that the decision to choose a healthy lifestyle is greatly influenced by one's level of motivation, particularly their intrinsic level of motivation. In the field of health promotion and education motivation has been supported as an important variable in a range of theoretical models that aim to encourage health-related behaviors. These models' primary focus is on encouraging individuals to engage in healthier behaviors.

A variety of measures have been developed in order to quantify the many motives for engaging in behaviors that are beneficial to one's health. The College Students' Health Motivation Questionnaire, or CSHM-Q for short, is one of these instruments. It is an innovative and generic tool that assesses the motivation for leading a healthy lifestyle among emerging adults. A previous study that utilized the procedures of traditional test theory came to the conclusion that the CSHM-Q possesses satisfactory psychometric qualities. The results of a parallel analysis and an exploratory factor analysis revealed that it is composed of three components and sixteen items in total. For a condensed explanation of the CSHM-Q, kindly refer to the section devoted to the approach.

The CSHM-Q was created and tested based on approaches of classical test theory only, and it is a well-known shortcoming of traditional test theory that the prediction of psychometric properties is sample dependent [6], the purpose of the current study was to further verify the original CSHM-Q through the application of a contemporary psychometric approach known as Rasch analysis.

Findings

The Rasch model was satisfied with the data obtained from all of the different components of the modified CSHM-Q. There was no loss of any of the 16 objects. The overall fit, item fit, person fit, and targeting were all satisfactory across the board for each component. Following the implementation of the change, none of the items exhibited disorder thresholds, local dependencies, or differential item functioning. It is possible to convert total subscale scores into interval scales by adding together those scores. The applicability of the CSHM-Q as an instrument that may be used to measure emerging adults' motivation for a healthy lifestyle in the context of health education was confirmed by evidence from a Rasch analysis.
